T2′S MATTHEW LIMBACHER BREAKS NATIONAL AGE GROUP RECORD IN 50 BREASTSTROKE

T2 11-12 year old Matthew Limbacher has broken a record that is more than two decades old; at the T2 Norris Foundation meet in Naples, Florida. He posted a 31.62 to win the 11-12 age group in the 50 long course meter breaststroke. That broke a record set in 1992 by the legendary Anthony Robinson, which as T2 head coach Paul Yetter pointed out after the swim was 8 years before Limbacher was even born.
This was an incredibly fast record. So fast that even the greats Michael Andrew and Reece Whitley, who between them in the last two years had about a dozen or more record-breaking breaststroke swims in the 11-12 age group, didn’t touch it (Andrew was a 32.33 when he was 12.)
Two years ago, Limbacher also grabbed the 10 & under National Age Group Record in the same distance with a 35.65.
In other swims at the meet, Limbacher won the 100 meter breaststroke in 1:10.05, which is about half-a-second off of Maverick Smalley’s record in that race; was a 30.38 to win the 50 fly; and came into the 100 fly final as the top seed (as of posting) in 1:10.22. His 100 breaststroke was faster than was his 100 fly through prelims.
Limbacher ages up in the next few weeks, so this could be his last run as an 11-12.
